Beautiful. Experimental artist Fabian Oefner has created a storm of coloured neon paints hitting the new Farrari California T sports car at over 150mph to emulate it’s speed. Love neon. Farrari’s are pretty nice too.
French “transmedia installation designer” Miguel Chevalier turned the Moroccan cathedral Sacré Coeur into a shimmering spectacle of lights and responsive surfaces with his latest project, “Magic Carpets”.
This is only amazing.
Adidas ‘Unite All Originals’ has created this very old school mix with the trend that is now. I’m not normally one for 2D colourful graphics plonked on top of live footage as it usually just looks like someone had little skills and big ideas. However, this advert has really done all justice to 2D vs 3D. Classic block colour graphics, 8-bit fire, ‘bubble’ writing (a school yard scribble favorite), tetras, basic play on perspective and hip hop legends Run DMC , teamed with the oddly popular space (see this cat/space blog to understand the intense approval of cats and space on the internet), skeletons (they’re in), general 3D graphics and A DJ (A-Track) of course accompanied by a very fresh new tune. What I’ve gathered from my sweep of the internet is the very catchy and just awesome track is all the rave and not the genius that is the visuals. And yes there is no doubt that the tune gets top marks. But this is a blog of praised visuals not bangin tunes.
At this time the track I’m afraid doesn’t seem to exist on the internets. Sorry. If you’re interested knowing more about the masters of collision, Run DMC and the prince of clubs, A-Trak then watch this ‘making of’.
BUT, what I didn’t know (and strangely found it not so easy to discover) is that Adidas did not just make a TV commercial. No. They also created an interactive film. This means you control the animation of the graphics and special effects by simply typing in prompted commands. It’s a little rushed at first but on the second go it gets quite amusing. It’s the little things. Try it on their site!

This music video is class. One of my favorite design studios BL:ND, has come together with Gap to promote their colorful spring and summer collections. Directed by Chris Do (founder & executive producer of Blind), a music video for Danish post-punk duo Sune Rose Wagner and Sharin Foo, aka The Raveonettes for their ep ‘Sound of Color’. “The (Blind) team executed an edgy and elegant exploration of the contradictory forces that black and white represent.” – Blind…. I keep coming across these guys and just have to spread the word! Lucie Thomas & Thibault Zimmermann are a creative duo based in Nancy, France. Their studio ‘Zim & Zou‘ explores the areas of paper sculpture, installations, graphic design and illustration. Their work is absolutely flawless, vibrant and beautiful.
Now normally I’m not too into idents and logos. Don’t get me wrong, I appreciate the necessity and enjoy the whole process but I wouldn’t say I usually salivate over them. However, here’s a brand new ident, created for UK channel More4 that I just found fantastic. I wasn’t particularly enthused by the actual logo itself, although the more and more I look at it and see it’s expanding visual treatments, it’s starting to grow on me. What I LOVE are the stings that accompany the logo which are beautiful. Very atmospheric, colourful and simplistic visuals and sound. Designed by London based design & motion studio ManvsMachine. I’m delighted. More4, more stuff like this please!
